2018 Design Challenge
We want all graduates of the Academy for Design and Technology to be innovative and critical investigators, communicators,
and collaborators, and we can’t help students reach that expectation
without providing opportunities to engage in design thinking.
With that in mind, we will be taking all Academy ninth graders on the
first annual Design Challenge Learning Expedition in Columbus, TX!
DESIGN CHALLENGE DETAILS:
This will be an overnight trip. Students will board school buses on Thursday, November 8 at 9:00am, and drive to Pine Cove Camp in Columbus, TX. Students will work collaboratively throughout the day on various design challenges facilitated by the 9th grade Academy teachers, and will stay overnight in the cabins on site. The students will complete their work the next morning, and will arrive back to Austin High by 2pm on November 9.
PAYMENT
The total cost of the trip is $165. We have broken that down into three installments of $55. You can save $15 by paying in one bundle of $150. Trip payments can be made online at www.schoolcashonline.com. This link explains how to create a School Cash account.
This Payment Plan sheet explains the installments for the experience. A hard copy will come home with your students early next week, and we ask that you return it to your student’s English Teacher (Mrs. Nunez or Ms. Adams).
TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarship requests are due by Oct. 1, 2018. You may apply for a scholarship by filling out the Academy Travel Scholarship Application. We have a motto at Austin high that "we all travel, or we don't travel at all," and our HT Parent Board works tirelessly to raise scholarship funds throughout the year. Please don't hesitate to contact the Academy Office if you have any questions/concerns. We want to do everything we can to ensure that all 9th grade Academy for Design and Technology students get to have this experience.
